have you visited Didyma in Turkey ? I t is famous for its Apollon Temple but the name of the city ( twins in greek ) suggest there must be a temple for Artemis as well. I visited fifteen years ago and found out there was a second ' temple', dug inside caves a few km further away. There was a german archeology group . I never heard anything about it in the papaers later on.

Yes! We were there in November and found the Artemis temple, it will be added to the map soon. We also found a column at the Apollo temple that depicted Artemis and Leto. Personally, I think Artemis played a much more significant role in the worship and temple sites of Apollo than is often acknowledged. So far, everywhere there is a temple to him, there is very likely a temple to her, sometimes even older. I want to complete the mapping before writing about all of this in detail, but the pattern is becoming increasingly clear.

The fact that Didyma means twins already suggests to me that Artemis and Apollo were worshipped together at the main temple. It makes sense that her presence would be there, even if it hasn’t been as widely recognized :)
